BJC Animal Control and GBHS To Host Adopt-A-Thon for Retrieved T.E.A.R.S. Animals
Birmingham-Jefferson County (BJC) Animal Control Services in collaboration with the Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) are hosting an Adopt-A-Thon on Saturday, January 30 and Saturday, February 6, both from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at GBHS, located off of West Oxmoor Road on Snow Drive. The Adopt-A-Thon is planned to increase efforts of finding loving homes for the numerous animals retrieved from the embattled T.E.A.R.S. location in early January.
“This has been a tough set of circumstances for all parties involved, but our ultimate goal out of all of this is to achieve the best possible outcome for all animals involved,” says Steve Smith, BJC Animal Control Executive Director. “We look forward to working with GBHS to ensure each of these animals is adopted and finds a loving home.”
BJC Animal Control and GBHS received more than 75 animals from the T.E.A.R.S. organization after then Director Terra Cotramano was fired because of accusations of mistreating animals and mishandling funds.
“I am so excited that BJC Animal Control and GBHS are working together to get these animals placed in a good home,” says Jacqueline Meyer, GBHS Executive Director.
This event is open to the public and is free to attend. Local rescue groups including Have a Heart Animal Rescue and Adoption and others will be in attendance as well. A special Web site has been created in order to view the adoptable pets rescued from T.E.A.R.S. and can be found at http://sites.google.com/site/animalrescuebham/. A video has been created to showcase the dogs as well and can be found below.
