Animal control services are provided throughout unincorporated Jefferson County and the City of Birmingham. Trained animal technicians in fully-equipped trucks can be efficiently dispatched 24 hours a day, seven days a week for emergencies involving domestic, feral or wildlife animals. Currently, BJC provides and maintains 11 animal control trucks and offers the following services:

- Bite and attack investigations

- Cruelty and neglect investigations
- Stray and unlicensed animal pickup
- Injured animal rescue
- Lost and found services
- Microchipping
- Licensing services
- Enforce city ordinances
- Education programs and booths
- Trap rental
- Animal information and referral
- Permits
- Rabies vaccinations
- Leashes, collars, pet wagons and I.D. tags
